So to protect against being slandered and offended, new mechanisms must be found for the new media.

Everyone can use the internet to spread fake news and desinformation, and this is done on a massive level nowadays, and for a long time already.

Damned.. I haven't been on this forum for hell of a long time. But lately I've been playing H2 again, remembered this mod, noticed it was actually out and decided to try it out.


First of all take anything I present here only as ramblings of an old madman. Nothing to take too seriously. I only have a few hours anyway.

First of all I love that it is more then a simple pallet swap. The rebalance of economics and creature stats helps tremendously to recreate the original H2 feel.I was originally rather sceptical but once the map loaded up, I was instantly hooked.


One thing that sours my experience is the stability of the mod. I had several crashes and freezes. But Im not going to blame the mode for this. It most likely has more to do with the fact I used an old, CD based, unpached, Czech version of Heroes III complete as the basis.

Changes to he lineups
Warlock+Necromancer+Barbarian: I love that the new units are based on MaM IV creatures. Two of them are even really close  to their design in that game, as well as some of the other new units.


Wizards: I alwayes had a Tolkien-esc feeling from this town. Hobits, big eagels, wizzards just by a different name. So the addition of gremlins feels kind of wrong. Nothig terible, but something in my craves a better fit. To be hones I could see the treants rather here then with the Witches.

Sorceress: Similar to the wizards i just dont feel the Satyr as a natural fit. I would rather like to see something more fairytale-like. Maybe something connected to a red cape....

Knights: This is the only one I kind of dislike. Yea a 2nd archer is a good addition to the line up but rather then a guy with a "different  bow". I would rather appreciate something different. A monk style creature would fit well and there even is a precedence for it, as there are monks in MaM VI.

Now to the new factions:
Derwish: This faction is something I was dreaming up as far as my pre-teens. I was always fascinated by neutral c ... post shortened to 2000 characters.

There are these little things you put on items.

When those items are out of precoded spec the main device here sends a signal which can then control either
Audible, light, phone signal, radio signal, Morse code, Ralph to vomit, feed the sparrows, basically anything you program to happen.




One way to use the tech without emiting longer ranges is personal effect loss detection.

I have indicated a 3 tier set between.

If the cds are gone it could be set to a passive notice.

If the phone is lost it could notify others or it could simply beep.



And here is a Roomba that plays records.
Or looks like it does and plays audio.
Etc



Either way what you can access with the physical pincode is up to you and the device capabilities as well.

If I'm to give a feedback I would suggest to make Kalibarrs robe a bit less Bohb in color and perhaps look at the scale of the staff. You might want it to be big/high but propertions seems just a bit off. Minor details though, nice work.


Thanks for the feedback and the compliment, it means a lot to me. The problem with the staff was, that I actually made it via screenshotting the deadwood staff ingame XD. I then tried to make it a little more wood-like instead of pixel-like but it kinda didn't quite get the same resolution as Kalibarr.
I do however kinda like the Bohb-style robe with purple accents over a more purple robe with only the cyan accent, mainly because of how dark the black cape already is. The cyan of bohb's robes kinda makes for a great contrast, which is why I made him far less purple, then he was in that picture.

And yes, the plan is to eventually have all campaign heroes made into unique ones, just like the GT and WoW heroes. Currently working on Solmyr, with Gauldoth, Emilia and Kalibarr being already finished.

Regarding the Unity modding: I actually have no clue. I never used the Unity engine, I basicly only made Heroes 4 2D textures. I guess I have some idea of making sounds, but I have never tried anything in Unity so far.

I've finally finished my town and wanted to share it with everyone.
I really liked WOG's Script67 NEUTRAL TOWN and decided to remake it into this new faction I've been working on.

This town's line-up is mainly composed of neutral creatures. Their common point being their non-belonging to other factions.
For balances purposes, I adjusted their growth and costs.

I did wanted to change their stats a lot though, because I wanted to keep them similar to their vanilla/wog counterparts.
However, some abilities were removed and added as "stack experience" in a specific sub-mod for WoG users.

This faction main inspiration are nomadism, motley armies and makeshift solutions.
It also takes elements from the Mesopotamian, Sumerian and Akkadian mythologies.
There are even more source of inspirations, but you can learn more by reading the PDF contained within the mod.


What this mod adds ?
- Obviously a new castle with neutral units within it. These creatures are standalone so you don't need WoG or anything else (besides H3-VCMI of course). It has new heroes, specialties, town/siege screens and puzzlemap, AdvMap/battle sprites, etc.

- New creatures Shapeshifters (neutral creature that shapeshifts into other h3 vanilla monsters), Flesh Golems (a mix between golems and ghosts) and Daeva (powerful djinn, which you can only obtain by defeating the new creature bank this mod adds).

- New spells : Namburbi (morale + luck buff), Sigu (morale + luck debuff), Emet (summons g/d golems), Met (destroys golems), Amad (resurrect golems), and new abilities for the lvl 7 creature.

Another what? Only thing you can play against computer AI, what? Neutral.. Its most important that you can anything to beat the neutral due to you win your time and movement.. If you're waiting for more troops, and MP opponent used lesser troops, so opponent has continue on the way.. My HotA map is coming, mapname is The Dead Ornament, only you fight against neutral to victory, you never meet your murder OP AI for weak thousands of neutrals, or your friend, if you're playing hotseat or MP.. If you want to meet them, you need airship, and map hasn't airship.. So only your showing skill is against neutrals.. Interesting! Earlier I made a map named True or Fantasy, now's new variation, thus player can't meet other opponent in 99% possibly in final territory where are 4 exit portals near the last task.. Yeah you follow a Eye of the Magi to see their troops or they leave the final task using a TP.. It can call some is the best SP.. It can also play against ghost time is opponent.. Whichever is faster! Yea gamble can be there.. If opponent doesn't go to their towns back nor taking the last task, only waiting for you.. Thanks..

Otherwise, I'm afraid there might actually not be much on this. Unless you'd ask Gregory Fulton directly, but there's no guarantee he remembers the details all too well or anything (and there was also no other creature scrapped post-modeling, save for the Lobstrosity).

Those are generally nice propositions, whether as neutrals or as part of factions. Some comments, however (mostly on the creatures themselves):

I strongly disagree with giving them bows for multiple reasons. And then, the whole Tolkien trinity of elves and the ljosalfar angle that stems from it (and from other aspects like Norse underrepresentation in the original game) would exclude the usage of an "ice" ability on a Vori "light elf" (because that's pretty much what they really represent at the end of the day).

It does appear in some DnD style games, form what I've googled, but I actually never seen one in games myself


I know of them from Harry Potter (books only), even there they're just mentioned as part of the wizard world and don't play a role in the story, but I think I would have liked them in the Tower line up.

that's right, I think professor Lupin used one in the third book.

@phoenix, yeah there are for sure many possibilities that could have been implemented within the games, without even making major changes to existing lore. That's why I started another thread about possible lore based factions.

I find it fascinating how on one end basically one part of the HoMM team just designs factions, and then another part creatures lore and stories around it. Like how Regna was intorduced in the succession wars, later appearing briefly in HoMM3 and MM7 before being ifnaly visited in MM8. And then becoming a faction in a mod. It's overall pretty cool, and there are other examples like that for example Karigor and Vori.

That's why I also started this thread to see if people knew anything about other creatures, tropes or similar that were considered on the drawing board for the game.

Yeah I also don't see Red caps as a good fit for wizard/tower. Academy is probably the only faction ubisoft did better than NWC, and it's pretty clear from the H2 wizard being almost completely revamped for H3 that it took some time to find a clear identity for a faction based around wizards.

But learning about how red caps were almost included in the game, I got curious if there were other creatures cut at different stages of forming the factions, but I wasn't able to find anything so I came here to ask
